Lightning Volleyball Splits with CSI and Cairn

The Lehman volleyball team split their matches today earning a straight set sweep over CSI and falling in three sets to Cairn University.  Lehman now stands at 13-9 on the season. 

In the first match of the day the Lightning made quick work of the Dolphins defeating CSI 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-15).  Yaw Eshun and Filipe Velandia led the way with 14 and 12 kills respectively.  Jose Bautista was credited with four aces and led the team with 34 assists. 

In the first set the Lightning jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back.  The same can be said for the second set where Lehman jumped out to a 9-3 lead and cruised to victory.  In the third set with the scored tied at 7, the Lightning recorded seven straight points to take control of the set and earning the victory. 

Against Cairn the Lightning dug themselves a hole in the first set from which they could not recover.  Lehman trailed 10-4 was able to rally cutting the lead to 18-16 but could not get any closer falling 25-20.  Set two was a back and forth after early.  Cairn was able to take control with a 10-7 lead and built the advantage to 15-10 before earning a 25-21 victory.  With the score tied at 15 in the third, Cairn scored five unanswered points to take control going on to earn the sweep winning the third set 25-19. 

Eshun once again led the attack with 15 kills.  George Montilla recorded 27 assists.

The Lightning return to CUNYAC play on Wednesday as they travel to Jamaica, NY to face York.  First serve is 7PM.
