Four Lightning Sides Hosts Matches On Tuesday

Bronx, N.Y. – Four Lehman College athletics teams will hosts matches on Tuesday as men's and women's swimming/diving squads face Maritime College in a non-conference dual meet, while men's and women's basketball sides commence CUNYAC action taking on John Jay College.

Both Lehman hoopsters commence conference play squaring off against John Jay at The APEX Main Gym with the women's sides battling at 5 pm, while the men tip-off at approximately 7 pm.  Fans unable to come to campus can follow all the action online via live stats and live stream:

Lightning women (0-5; 0-0 CUNYAC) are coming off a 82-42 loss to non-conference opponent Ramapo College in their home opener over the weekend.  Center Nina Gill scored 13 points for Lehman, while guard Shanya Gonzalez had 10 points with four steals in the loss.   Meanwhile, the Bloodhounds (2-5; 0-0 CUNYAC) arrive into The APEX after 96-81 loss at Gwynedd Mercy University in non-conference action at Gwynedd Valley, Pa. last Saturday.

Lehman holds a 22-5 women's record in head-to-head encounters against John Jay since 2007, however the Bloodhounds have won the last two meetings.  The previous encounter between the two sides took place on January 19, 2019 at The APEX with visitors posting a 68-40 victory.  Forward Eriadna Vasquez led the Lightning with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Lehman men (1-4; 0-0 CUNYAC) head into Tuesday's encounter after 93-85 a non-conference loss at Purchase College a week ago.  Forward Isaiah Geathers led Lightning with 24 points, while guard Gian Batista and forward Mo Idrissou each added 14 points. 

Meanwhile, John Jay (4-1; 0-0 CUNYAC) comes into Bronx after 74-63 home win against St. Joseph's College-LI in a non-conference game last Tuesday. 

The Lightning have a 23-12 record in men's head-to-head meetings against the Bloodhounds since 1976, however John Jay has won the last three encounters.  The previous match-up between the two sides took place on February 16, 2019, at The Doghouse in New York City, with the Bloodhounds topping the Lightning 65-63 during the first round of CUNYAC Championships.  Geathers led the way for Lehman with his eighth 'double-double' of the season scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Swimmers Take On Privateers
Also on Tuesday, the Lehman's swimming and diving teams take on Maritime in a non-conference dual meet set for 6 pm at The APEX Pool.

The Lightning men (2-1) are coming off a 138-123 loss at Western Connecticut State in a non-conference match-up on Nov. 23rdAnton Kyrylenko paced Lehman capturing first place in the 50 Backstroke in a time of 30.69, while also winning 100 Breaststroke clocking in at 1:09.83.

Meanwhile, Privateers (5-0) won their last dual meet, at home on Nov. 15th, topping Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence College, 148-44, at Riesenberg Aquatic Center in Throggs Neck, N.Y. 

Maritime men have won 12 of 15 head-to-head duals against Lehman since 2004.  In the previous encounter held on December 4, 2018, the hosts defeated the Lightning, 155-56, at Riesenberg Aquatic Center. Kyrylenko posted a 1:07.78 to earn the top spot for Lehman in 100 Breaststroke.

The Lightning women (2-2) head into Tuesday's action after dropping a 147-98 decision at Western Connecticut two weeks ago.  Sarina Eshtiaghi led the way for Lehman as she prevailed in the 50 Butterfly (29.24), 100 IM (1:07.11) and 100 Butterfly (1:06.88).

Meanwhile, Privateers (3-3) defeated visiting Sarah Lawrence 97-66 in a Skyline match-up last month.

Maritime women hold a 9-6 record in head-to-head encounters against Lehman since 2004.  In the last meeting between the two sides on Dec. 4, 2018, the Privateers posted a 150-52 victory over visiting Lightning.  Eshtiaghi won a pair of events for Lehman as she claimed the gold in the 200 Freestyle (2:10.83) and 100 Backstroke (1:04.51).
