Lightning Hoopsters Travel To Face Medgar Evers On Saturday

Bronx, N.Y. – Both Lehman College basketball teams will travel to Cougars Cave in Brooklyn for CUNYAC twin-bill against Medgar Evers College on Saturday as the women's squads tip off at 1 pm while the men's sides face-off at 3 pm.

The Lightning women (0-11; 0-2 CUNYAC) are coming off an 87-56 loss at home to non-conference rival Kean University on Friday.  Meanwhile, the Cougars (1-6; 0-1 CUNYAC) dropped a 78-30 non-conference match-up at Salem State University over the weekend.

Lehman has won 15 of 16 head-to-head encounters against Medgar Evers since 2011.  However, in the previous meeting between the two sides, the Cougars snapped a 15-game losing skid against the Lightning with a 66-44 victory at the Cougars Cave on January 23, 2019.  Forward Eriadna Vasquez notched 19 points, while grabbing 22 rebounds and three steals for Lehman.

Also at the Cougars Cave on Saturday, the Lightning men (6-5; 1-1 CUNYAC) are aiming to extend their current six-game winning streak when they take on the Cougars (3-8; 0-1 CUNYAC). 

Lehman closed out 2019 by capturing the 14th edition of Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament Classic over the weekend, by defeating visiting Vassar College, 94-68, in the championship game held at The APEX Main Gym.  Forward Isaiah Geathers paced Lightning scoring 28 points on his way to tournament most valuable player honors.  Geathers, who also was named to the all-tournament team, added seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for Lehman. Joining Geathers on the all-tournament selection was guard Tommy Batista as he notched 21 points while dishing out six assists.

Meanwhile, Medgar Evers dropped a 108-83 decision to visiting Oneonta State in the championship game of the Dr. Carol V. De Costa Classic at the Cougars Cave over the weekend.

The Lightning have an 11-7 overall head-to-head record against the Cougars since 2011.  However, Medgar Evers ended an 11-game losing streak against Lehman with a 90-83 victory in its previous encounter at the Cougars Cave on Jan. 23, 2019.  Geathers led the way for the Lightning with 27 points.
