Men’s Hoopsters Hosts Medgar Evers In CUNYAC 1ST Round On Saturday; Volleyball Travels To PA

Bronx, N.Y. – Two Lehman College men's athletic teams will be in action on Saturday as the basketball side will hosts Medgar Evers College in opening round of the CUNYAC Championships at The APEX Main Gym, while the volleyball squad travels to Reading, Pa. for a non-conference tri-match at Alvernia University.

The Lightning hoopsters concluded the regular season this past with a 15-10 overall record and 9-5 in CUNYAC play which earned them the #3 seed in the conference tournament and will face the #6 seeded Cougars (7-18; 4-10 CUNYAC).

The Lehman-Medgar Evers winner on Saturday will then advance to the CUNYAC semifinals and take on the hosts and #2 seeded Baruch College on Tuesday (February 25th).

Lehman holds a 13-7 overall head-to-head record against Medgar Evers since 2011, with the Lightning winning both encounters this season.  The last time both squads met was last month (January 25th) during Homecoming at The APEX with the Lightning posting an 83-70 victory.  Forward Isaiah Geathers paced Lehman with 27 points, while guard Gian Batista added 24 points with 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Also, on Saturday, the Lehman volleyball side (5-10) will take on Eastern Mennonite University (2-3) and hosts Alvernia (8-5) at Physical Education Center in Reading, Pa. at 1 pm and 3 pm, respectively.

The Lightning are coming off a thrilling 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 27-25, 15-13) non-conference victory at home against Yeshiva on Wednesday.  Peter Veljovic paced the Lightning as he earned a 'double-double' with 12 kills and 23 digs, while Mentor Mahmuti also had a 'double-double' dishing out 13 assists along with 10 digs.
