Box Score Looking for their first CUNYAC Tournament Title since 2004, the Lightning left it all on the court suffering a heartbreaking defeat, 75-69 in OT to Baruch.
Lehman and Baruch split during the regular season each winning on their own home court. On January 19, Baruch came away with a 71-67 victory. Two weeks ago, in the APEX the Lightning prevailed 80-76.
The first 15 minutes was everything you could want in a championship contest. Each team led by as many as five points. But then the Lightning went on an 11-0 run to take a 37-25 lead, Lehman's largest of the game. The Bearcats rallied to end the half and trimmed the lead to 39-29. The Lightning defense also stepped up not allowing a field goal for the final 5:10 of the first half.
Will Feldman kept the Lightning in the game the first 11 minutes as he scored 13 points on 5-6 shooting (3-3 from behind the arc). He did pick up his second foul and went to the bench for the remainder of the half.
A 7-0 run by the Bearcats to start the second half put the Baruch right back in the game. And by the 16:19 mark the game was tied at 41. Baruch took their first lead of the second half on an Adnan Bajrami jumper with 15:42 to play, which capped a 14-2 spurt. It was a back-and-forth affair the remainder of the second half. Baruch tied the game at 64 with 9 seconds on the clock. Giving the Lightning a chance to win the game at the buzzer but the shot was off the mark.
Trailing by 3 with 29 seconds left in the extra period, the Lightning had several attempts to send the game to a second OT but their shots were off the mark and were forced to foul. The Bearcats were able to secure the victory from the charity stripe.
Will Feldman led the Lightning with 17 points,
Isaiah Geathers and
Gian Batista added 16 points apiece. Batista recorded his fourth triple double of the season with 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Geathers and Batista were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lightning end the season with a mark of 21-4. The Bearcats (20-7) earn the CUNYAC automatic Qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
