Lehman traveled to Manhattan this afternoon for their CUNYAC opener at John Jay and came away with a 69-66 victory over the Bloodhounds.
The Lightning were paced by Ricardo Dixon's 20 points and 10 rebounds. It was his fifth double double of the season. Zay Marte added 16 points on a perfect shooting afternoon. The junior and Bronx native was 5-5 from the field, 3-3 from behind the arc and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Kofi Mends chipped in 11 points and was credited with 3 steals.
Lehman took a 16 point lead into the locker room at halftime and extended their advantage to 20 (50-30) with 14:48 to play. At one point, the Bloodhounds cut the deficit to 2 points but were never able to take the lead. Leading by 2, the Lightning went on a 7-0 run to push their advantage to 66-57 with 3:18 remaining. The Bloodhounds once again battled back, cutting the lead to one (67-66) with 18 seconds remaining. Keysean Tracey drained a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to three. The Bloodhounds were unable to get a shot off in the waning seconds.
The Lightning return to action on Thursday evening as they host the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College in the nightcap of the conference double header.
