FDU-Florham Powers Past Lehman in Saturday Doubleheader

The Lehman College Lightning faced a tough road test on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to FDU-Florham in Madison, N.J., falling 18-0 in Game 1 and 13-1 in Game 2.

In the opener, FDU-Florham came out swinging and never let up. The Devils exploded for six runs in the first inning and continued to apply pressure throughout the shortened contest. Lehman battled through a difficult offensive afternoon, working counts and trying to manufacture opportunities, but the hosts controlled the tempo from the outset. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Lightning stayed active defensively, grinding through innings and continuing to compete pitch by pitch.

Game 2 brought a renewed spark from Lehman. After falling behind early once again, the Lightning found their breakthrough in the fifth inning when Dominic Malandro delivered an RBI single, driving in the team's lone run of the afternoon. With energy building in the dugout, Lehman showed flashes of offensive life and continued to compete defensively, but FDU-Florham maintained control behind timely hitting and multi-run innings to close out the sweep, 13-1.

Lehman now turns its focus to its next matchup on Friday, March 6, when the Lightning travel to Pomona, New York to take on St. Joseph's University Brooklyn at Clover Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time as Lehman aims to get on board and spark momentum early in the season.
