MEN'S BASKETBALL'S HOT STREAK HALTED BY BEARCATS IN CUNYAC BATTLE AT APEX

Box Score

The Lehman College men's basketball team (11-5 Overall, 4-1 CUNYAC) suffered a difficult loss to conference rival Baruch college (13-3 overall, 5-0 CUNYAC) in a CUNYAC contest by the score of 72-59 Friday evening at the APEX Center. The Lightning had won nine of their previous 10 contests coming into the game.

In the victory for Baruch College, sophomore Lionel Hilaire led the Bearcats with a game-high 20 points (4-8 FG, 9-9 FT) to go along with four assists in 33 minutes. Fellow sophomore Tammer Farid also chipped in with 13 points to go along with three assists, while junior George Kunkel snatched 11 rebounds. Finally Senior Mike Dietz put forth a fine all-around game with nine points, six rebounds, and three steals.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, senior center Alen Redzic netted a team-high 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. Sophomore Alain Dela Cruz and senior Duane Rhoden each scored 12 points and dished three assists, while Jonathan DeJesus chipped in with seven boards. Following the loss, Head Coach Steven Schulman was disappointed with the loss.

“We didn't play our best game tonight, and Baruch put a lot of pressure on us from the very beginning of the game,” Schulman said. “We weren't shooting the ball very well, and we couldn't defend the three point shots efficiently. This team will have four days now to regroup and then we'll get ready for the Cougars on Wednesday.”

The Lehman College men's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday evening as the team travels to Brooklyn, New York to battle the Medgar Evers Cougars in a CUNYAC contest, with game-time scheduled for 7:30pm.
