MEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP A SOLID VICTORY OVER BEAVERS, IMPROVE TO 6-1 IN CUNY PLAY

The Lehman College men's basketball team (13-5 Overall, 6-1 CUNYAC) continued their stellar play in conference action as the team recorded a hearty victory against the City College of New York Beavers (0-18 Overall, 0-8 CUNYAC) by a score of 76-54 Saturday afternoon at the APEX Center in the Bronx.

 

The Lightning were led by senior center Alen Redzic who put forth a terrific game as he recorded a double-double as he posted game-highs in points with 17 (6-13 FG) rebounds with 14 rebounds to go along with three steals. DeWitt Clinton High School product Duane Rhoden helped with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Xavier Garvin netted 12 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Jonathan Dejesus also chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. Following the game, Head Coach Steven Schulman gave his thoughts on the victory.

 

“I like the way we played,” Schulman said. “We came out focused and played good basketball despite the noon start. The team was ready to play basketball and I was very impressed with the energy that we showed. Every conference game from here on out is crucial, and we need to continue bringing our best each and every night.”

 

The Lightning outplayed the City College of New York Beavers in multiple aspects of the game. Lehman out-rebounded the beavers by a margin of 50-46 while also dishing 18 assists compared to nine for the Beavers. On the afternoon, the Lightning connected on 45.1 percent of their shots while the Beavers hit on only 25.8 percent of theirs. Lehman held a 31 point lead at one point during the second half before eventually putting away a 22-point victory.

 

Despite the loss for the Beavers, senior guard Andrew Mungin managed to net a team-high 14 points (6-6 FT) to go along with six rebounds and four assists. In addition, Felix Navarro helped with 11 points and four rebounds, and Franklyn Dunn chipped in by snatching 10 rebounds.    

 

The Lightning will return to action to play against New York City College of Technology Wednesday night at the APEX Center in the Bronx. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
