MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT CUNYAC GAME, DOWNING YELLOW JACKETS 66-57

The Lehman College men's basketball team (14-5 Overall, 7-1 CUNYAC) won their third consecutive CUNYAC game as the team picked up a hard-fought victory over the New York City College of Technology Yellow Jackets (10-8 Overall, 5-3 CUNYAC) by a score of 66-57 Wednesday evening in the Bronx.

The Lightning were led by Mount Saint Michael product Xavier Garvin who netted a game-high 21 points (6-12 FG, 5-6 FT) to go along with four steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Senior standout Alen Redzic also put forth another great performance as he posted 21 points (9-13 FG, 3-3 FT) to go along with nine rebounds. Senior guard Duane Rhoden added 12 points and nine rebounds, while guard Alain Dela Cruz chipped in with seven assists and three steals. Head Coach Steven Schulman was pleased with the team's effort.

“This was a tremendous victory for our team,” Schulman said. “We showed a lot of character tonight because there were a few instances where we built up our lead, and the Yellow Jackets came back pulled to within one or two points, but we never let them pull ahead, and we never lost our focus. The whole team put forth a quality effort and we're hoping to keep rolling.

The Lightning dominated on the boards, out-rebounding New York City College of Technology Yellow Jackets 45-29. Lehman College also connected on 43.6 percent of its attempts from the floor while the Yellow Jackets only drained 34.8 percent of their attempts. 

Despite the loss for the Yellow Jackets, sensation Jamaal Hall managed to net a team-high 20 points (5-5 FT) to go along with three rebounds six assists and three steals. Ryan Phillip chipped in with 18 points, ten rebounds and three steals, while Yvon Dantes chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and a game-high six steals.    

The Lightning will return to action on Saturday as the team travels to Brooklyn College to battle the Bridges, with game-time scheduled for 3:00pm.
