The Lehman College men's basketball team (7-14 Overall, 4-5 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference game on Monday evening to the Keystone College Giants (14-5 Overall, 9-3 CSAC) by a score of 64-62 at the APEX Center in the Bronx. The loss was the Lightning's second straight.
Keystone College's Mark Musumeci made good on a lay-up with 2.4 seconds remaining, and that basket proved to be the difference in the game. Lehman's Patryk Odedina connected on a game-tying basket with just over eight seconds remaining before Musumeci hit the game winner six seconds later. Following the game, Lightning head coach Steven Schulman gave his thoughts on the loss.
“I'm proud of the way the team kept fighting tonight despite the loss,” Schulman said. “The players kept at it tonight and gave it their all, and my experience tells me that their hard work is going to pay off. We have a crucial conference game with John Jay College on Wednesday evening and I believe we're going to play a very sound game against the Bloodhounds.”
Despite the loss for the Lightning, senior Perry Daniel put together another terrific game, netting a game-high 19 points while connecting on seven of his 13 shots from the floor and five of his six free throws. He also snatched three rebounds and picked up a pair of steals. Quaseem Weems had maybe his best performance of the year in the loss as he scored 14 points while nailing four treys, and Jonathan DeJesus grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied three steals despite shooting just two-of-10 from the field and scoring six points.
In the victory for Keystone College it was Tercel Taylor leading the way for his club as he posted team-highs in points with 15 and rebounds with 14. Ryne Luce also scored 13 points and dished three assists, and Malcolm Boone scored six points and snatched three rebounds.
Lehman will return to action on Wednesday evening as the Lightning will battle the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC contest at the APEX Center, with game-time scheduled for 5:00pm.
