Lehman Lays Down the Law Versus Bloodhounds

No one can ever accuse the Lehman women's tennis team of having bad timing.

That's because on the day when they officially cut the ribbon on their newly refurbished tennis courts, the Lightning followed the script and penned the perfect ending with a 6-3 win over visiting John Jay.

Ravnit Bhatia, Lehman's No. 1 singles player, continued her impressive season thus far, beating Ashley Marrero 6-4, 6-0 to improve to 4-2 on the year. Bhatia was also a doubles winner, teaming with partner Natalee Smith to down Marrero and Lauren Mallon 8-4. Smith took care of Mallon in No. 2 singles action as well, winning 6-4, 6-2.

The Bloodhounds stood tall in No. 3 and No. 4 doubles, however, with Jessica Eng beating Krystina Nguyen in a tightly contested match 6-4, 7-6, and Kathy Seo turning away Dalia Rodriguez 6-2, 6-2. Eng and Seo formed John Jay's lone victorious doubles pairing, vanquishing Nyugen and Ashley Cox 8-4.

In No. 5 singles action, Alexandria Reel took care of Crystal Charles 6-1, 6-4. Charles was on the receiving end of Lehman's winning strokes in doubles as well, dropping her No. 3 match with partner Wilesca Belhomme, 8-2, to Rodriguez and Dareliz Collado. Collado bested Belhomme in No. 6 singles, 8-1, to complete Lehman's overall triumph.

With the win the Lightning improves to 4-4 on the year and 3-2 in the CUNYAC while John Jay falls to 2-6 and 2-2 in the conference.

Lehman stays within the CUNYAC for their next match, hosting the College of Staten Island at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
