The Lehman College men's basketball team (12-5 Overall, 5-1 CUNYAC) continued to stay hot against conference opponents as the Lightning picked up yet another CUNYAC victory, downing the Medgar Evers Cougars (0-18 Overall, 0-7 CUNYAC) by a score of 83-71 Wednesday evening in Brooklyn, New York.
The Lightning were led in the game by senior Duane Rhoden who put forth another phenomenal performance, as the DeWitt Clinton High School product scored a game-high 25 points (8-18 FG) to go along with 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Sophomore Jonathan DeJesus also notched a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, and freshman Xavier Garvin added 13 points and three steals. Alain Dela Cruz and Chukwuma Ndukewe scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lightning dominated in multiple facets of the game Wednesday evening. Lehman College out-rebounded the Cougars by a margin of 53-37 and the Lightning also shot 44.9 percent from the floor while holding Medgar Evers to 34.9 percent shooting. Lehman also dished 13 assists compared to only nine for the Cougars. The Lightning trailed 58-54 in the contest but outscored Medgar Evers 29-13 in the final 7:58 to nail down the win.
Despite the loss for the Cougars, Ronald Holloway put forth a terrific game with 24 points (7-11 FG) to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. In addition, Kallai Sharpe netted 16 points and tallied three steals, and Marcus Archer dropped in 13 points and snatched eight rebounds.
The Lightning will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the team returns home to the APEX Center to battle the Beavers of the City College of New York in a CUNYAC contest, with game-time scheduled for noon.
