MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS SIXTH GAME IN LAST SEVEN TRIES, DOWNING KEYSTONE COLLEGE 81-61

Box Score

The Lehman College men's basketball team (8-4 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) won for the sixth time in its last seven tries, defeating the Keystone College Giants (5-3 Overall) by a score of 81-61 Monday evening in a non-conference contest played in La Plume, Pennsylvania. The victory for Lehman improved the Lightning's record to 3-2 on the road.

Lehman won the game by shooting lights-out from the floor and dominating on the glass. For the game, the Lightning shot a whopping 55.6 percent from the floor while Keystone College hit on just 28.8 percent of its attempts. Lehman College grabbed 41 rebounds while the Giants snatched just 27. The Lightning also made their presence known in the pain, swatting five Giant shots compared to none for Keystone College.

Leading the way for Lehman College was feisty second-year guard Xavier Garvin as he scored a game-high 18 points (6-9 FG) while dishing seven assists and tallying two steals. Senior center Alen Redzic posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards, and Duane Rhoden and Jonathan DeJesus dropped in 11 points apiece. Following the game, Head Coach Steven Schulman was very happy with the victory.

“The energy and hustle that this team showed for a Monday game coming back from a holiday weekend was very encouraging,” Schulman said. “Our guys came out with passion from the get-go, and we played a full 40 minutes. I'm very satisfied with the effort right now, and this is a tremendous road victory for us. Now we'll look ahead to the Staten Island game and hopefully, we can stay hot in league play.”

Despite the loss for the Giants, Spencer Lunger netted a team-high 13 points to go along with three rebounds, and Michael Kelly scored 10 points and snatched five rebounds.

The Lightning will return to action on Wednesday evening as the team travels to Staten Island to battle the CSI Dolphins in a CUNYAC contest, with game-time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
