MEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP VICTORY OVER ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE OF BROOKLYN

The Lehman College men's basketball team (3-5 Overall, 1-1 CUNYAC) picked up a non-conference victory on Saturday evening, defeating the Bears of St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn (1-6 Overall) by a score of 78-71. The victory for the Lightning was their third triumph in their last four games.

 

Lehman used a fine team effort in picking up the victory, as all five Lightning starters scored in double figures. Junior Jonathan DeJesus led the way for Lehman, netting a team-high 18 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Senior Perry Daniel added 16 points and five rebounds, and Mathias Raggiotto posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 Rebounds. Xavier Garvin netted 12 points, snatched four rebounds and recorded four steals, and Alain Dela Cruz finished with 11 points.

 

Despite the loss for the Bears, it was Jon Matzelle scoring a game-high 21 points (10-14 FG) to go along with 10 rebounds. Antoine Forehand also put forth a tremendous effort with 16 points and four rebounds.

 

The Bears shot 46.8 percent while the Lightning connected on 44.1 percent of their shots, and St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn edged Lehman in the rebounding department, grabbing 41 boards compared to 38 for the Lightning. Lehman won the turnover battle, committing just 17 miscues compared to 24 for the Bears, and the Lightning also swatted five shots compared to one for St. Joseph's.

 

The Lightning will now have six days off before returning to action on Saturday afternoon, as Lehman will battle the SUNY Purchase Panthers at 3:00pm as part of the 2nd Annual CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer event at the APEX Center.
