Game 2 Box Score
The Lehman College baseball team (4-20 Overall, 1-7 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of conference games, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats (14-8-1 Overall, 8-0 CUNYAC) by scores of 14-2 and 26-10 Saturday afternoon at the South Field in the Bronx.
In game one of the day, the big story was the performance of Baruch College hurler David Chestnut who pitched a complete game and picked up the victory, as he allowed just two runs (both earned) on nine hits while walking two batters and striking out five. He also had a fine day at the dish, finishing 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Also on the offensive side for the Bearcats, Jorge Rosado put together a 3-for-5 game at the plate with a triple, three runs scored, and three RBI's. As a team, Baruch College recorded 18 hits on the game.
Adam Kolinoski pitched four innings for Lehman College and took the loss, allowing 13 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits while walking a batter. Jason Caraballo did put forth three solid innings of relief, allowing just one run (earned) and six hits while walking a batter and striking out two. Offensively for the Lightning in game one, Gilbert Garcia singled three times and went 3-for-4, and Emmanuel Vera picked up a pair of singles and finished 2-for-3.
The Bearcats used a six-run second inning to set the tone for the remainder of the game, and Baruch College also took advantage of Lehman's season-high of 11 errors.
The second game of the afternoon turned out to be a roller-coaster. Both starters, Kellin Bliss of Baruch College, and Vera of Lehman College, were knocked out before completing four innings. The Bearcats would plate four runs in the top of the second inning and five more in the top of the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead. After adding two more in the fourth inning to increase their advantage to 11-0, the Bearcats would stub their toes in the bottom of the fourth, as the Lightning would dent home plate nine times to pull to within two at 11-9. Baruch, however, would outscore Lehman 15-1 over the final three innings of play to capture the victory.
Offensively for Baruch College in game two, Rosada finished 5-for-5 with a triple, a walk, three runs scored, seven RBI's, and he was hit by a pitch. Arturo Ledesma went 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles, a walk, four runs scored, and six RBI's. For the Lightning, Angel Ramos finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI's, and Andrew Rosario went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, a walk, a run scored, and two RBI's.
The Lightning will return to action on Sunday afternoon as Lehman takes to the road to finish up this three-game series with the Baruch College Bearcats, with game-time scheduled for noon. The third and final game of this three-game set will be a non-conference game.
