MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM SILENCES YELLOW JACKETS IN BLOWOUT VICTORY IN BROOKLYN

The Lehman College men's basketball team (7-12 Overall, 4-4 CUNYAC) won their third consecutive game (and third straight conference game) by defeating the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology (2-17 Overall, 1-7 CUNYAC) by a score of 75-50 Wednesday evening at the Klitgord Gymnasium in Brooklyn, NY.

The Lightning were led by a dominating performance from one of their veteran players – Jonathan DeJesus. The standout scored 19 points and snatched nine rebounds in the victory. In addition, Xavier Garvin connected on 10 of his 11 free throw attempts and finished with 17 points and three assists on the evening, and Perry Daniel added 13 points and dished a pair of assists. Following the victory, head coach Steven Schulman gave his thoughts.

“I think the word of the evening is unselfish,” Schulman said. “This was one of our more complete efforts of the year, and we really worked together and made things happen tonight. I love the energy that we're showing out there, and I think we're really coming together. We have the defending champion Bulldogs coming in on Saturday, so we'll need to emulate tonight's win if we are to defeat them.”

The Lightning shot 45 percent from the field for the game while holding the Yellow Jackets to just a 32 percent conversion rate from the floor. Lehman also won the turnover battle, committing 16 compared to 23 for New York City College of Technology.

In the victory for City Tech, it was Gabriel Davis putting forth a stellar night as he dropped in 22 points and snatched four rebounds, and it was also Charles Fitzgerald netting eight points while grabbing a whopping 13 rebounds.

Lehman College will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning will battle the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College in a crucial CUNYAC contest at the APEX Center, with game-time scheduled for 3:00pm. The day will also serve as Alumni Day, with many Lightning greats such as Duane Rhoden, Miguel Jorge, and current women's basketball assistant coach Sekani Francis, as well as many more former men's basketball standouts scheduled to play in the alumni contest which is scheduled to take please immediately before the men's basketball game.
