Box Score

The Lehman College baseball team (7-14 Overall, 2-7 CUNYAC) picked up a tremendous non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University (10-15 Overall, 1-7 NJAC) by a score of 11-9 at the South Field in the Bronx. The Lightning overcame deficits of 6-1 and 8-3 to pick up the hard-fought victory.

William Rivera got the start for the Lightning and didn't pitch badly, but he was victimized by three Lightning errors, as the right hander allowed eight runs (only four earned) in five innings while giving up nine hits and walking two batters. When he left the game, Lehman trailed 8-3 as the contest headed to the bottom of the fifth inning. Alberto Alicea tossed the next three innings and picked up the victory, allowing just one run (earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out two. Jhon Comas Disla picked up the save, pitching the ninth and not allowing a run.

Alvin Carrasco got the start for the Gothic Knights and he hurled six innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits while walking four and striking out a pair. Randy Parish relieved Carrasco and he picked up the loss, tossing 1.1 innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on three hits while walking a pair and striking out one.

With Lehman College behind 8-3 as the game headed to the bottom of the sixth, the Lightning picked up three runs thanks to Comas Disla who doubled and drove in two runs and Guzman who singled to left and drove in a run. After six innings, the Lightning trailed 8-6.

The game was won in the bottom of the eighth inning when – trailing 9-6 – the Lightning dented the dish five times against Randy Parish to take an 11-9 lead. The frame was highlighted by RBI singles by Comas Disla, Amadoernesto Guzman, Raul Cordero, and Miguel Sanchez.

Offensively for the Lightning in the victory, it was Disla finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of singles, a stolen base, two runs scored, and four runs driven in. Bobby Villante went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a walk, and Guzman singled twice and drove in two.

For the Gothic Knights, Rob Gonzalez tripled, singled twice, finished 3-for-6, scored three runs, and drove in three. Ken Witte doubled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Jordan Tetrick had three hits including a pair of doubles.

The Lightning return to action tomorrow evening as the team takes to the road to battle SUNY Maritime in a non-conference game, with first-pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
