BASEBALL SPLITS PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE GAMES WITH SUNYIT WILDCATS ON FRIDAY

Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

The Lehman College baseball team (2-2 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) split a pair of games on Friday afternoon, defeating SUNYIT by a score of 13-6 in game one but falling to the Wildcats 12-5 in game two Friday afternoon at the South Field in the Bronx.

In the first game of the afternoon, Lightning veteran Brian Cubero got the start for Lehman College and he picked up the victory, hurling six innings and allowing three runs (one earned) while allowing just four hits, walking four and striking out eight. It was arguably his best performance as a member of the Lightning.  Brian Weigel got the start for the Wildcats and he took the loss as he was tagged for six runs (all earned) on nine hits while walking one batter and striking out one in three innings of work.

Offensively for the Lightning, Lehman was led by the outstanding performance of shortstop Jhon Comas Disla as he finished the game 3-for-5 with a homerun, a double, three runs scored, and two runs batted in. Amadoernesto Guzman doubled and picked up two hits while scoring twice, picking up an RBI, and walking once, and William Rivera went 2-for-3, doubled and scored two runs.

The Lightning fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but it was all Lehman College from there. After the Lightning scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to cut SUNYIT's lead to 2-1, Lehman took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Rivera doubled home Onix Mejia and Angel Ramos hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Raul Cordero.

Lehman would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth inning – when – leading 3-2 – the squad plated six runs to take a 9-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by four Lightning hits – including a RBI double from Comas Disla – who also made a few dazzling plays in the field as well.

In the second game, Arturo Lazaro Jr. got the start for the Lightning and took the loss, hurling two innings of work and allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits while walking a batter and striking out four. William Rivera pitched 3.1 innings of relief and allowed four earned runs and four hits, and Alberto Alicea hurled the final 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Anthony Surber got the victory for SUNYIT, as he pitched 4.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven batters.

Offensively for the Wildcats, leading the way was Dan Orza as he finished the game 2-for-4 with a homerun, a run scored, and four runs batted in. Chris Fratini went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and four runs batted in, and Matt Faboskay doubled and collected three hits while scoring three runs and picking up a pair of RBI.

Raul Cordero and Amadoernesto Guzman each homered for the Lightning in the second game. Cordero's blast was a three-run bomb, while Guzman hit a solo shot later on.

The Lightning will return to action on Sunday afternoon as Lehman will take on Emerson College in a non-conference doubleheader, with the first game scheduled to begin at noon.
