The Lehman College baseball team finalized its 2010 season on Friday afternoon by falling to the Wesley College Wolverines by a score of 7-5 at the South Field in the Bronx.
Prior to the game, Sports Information Director Stephen Spagnoli, along with the Director of Athletics Dr. Martin L. Zwiren, the Vice President of Student Affairs, Jose Magdaleno, and the entire Lehman College baseball family took a few moments to honor four four-year seniors, including William Rivera, Matthew Arvelo, Jason Caraballo, and Amadoernesto Guzman. Each player was presented with a commemorative framed jersey in a show of appreciation of their dedication to the Lightning's baseball program.
Caraballo got the start for the Lightning and he put forth a hearty effort in taking the loss, hurling seven innings and allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking eight and striking out five. Matt Faulkner got the start and got the victory for the Wolverines, tossing six innings and allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out one.
The Lightning trailed 6-0 after five and a half innings of play, but Lehman began chipping way in the bottom of the sixth when Raul Cordero would hit a three-run homerun to cut Lehman's deficit to three runs at 6-3. Grant Morlock helped Wesley College get a run back in the top of the eighth inning with a solo homerun to left field off of Lightning reliver Alberto Alicea, but Lehman plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single by Arvelo and an RBI double by Raul Cordero. William Rivera would then come up with the bases loaded and two outs and strike out with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Guzman came up with two outs and a runner on first base and flied out to center field to end the Lightning's hopes of a possible comeback.
